Gang-rape case: Phone used to click photojournalist's pictures seized

The crime branch officials on Thursday seized a mobile phone belonging to Mohammad Kasim Mohammad Hafiz Shaikh alias Bangali, one of the arrested rape accused.

Bangali, 22, was one of the five men accused of raping a 23-year-old photojournalist at the Shakti Mills compound last Thursday. He was arrested on Saturday. The accused had clicked pictures of the woman after the crime.

Confirming that the mobile phone has been seized, the crime branch officer said Bangali had used the phone to click the photo of rape victim.

The victim reportedly told police that among the rapists, Kasim Bangali raped her twice.

Originally from West Bengal, Mohamed Kasim Sheikh alias Bangali, 20, was residing in a slum colony near a petrol pump at Kalapani area in Agripada, with his parents and two unmarried sisters including an elder one.

He was unemployed and a history-sheeter and was earlier arrested by the Tardeo police in a dacoity case in 2011. Bangali’s father Yasim Sheikh is a labourer while his mother works as a domestic help. He has two sisters. He used to drink and smoke charas.
