Gang preparing to commit dacoity held

Three people have been arrested by the Dahisar unit of crime branch on Sunday for allegedly preparing to commit dacoity. The gang was planning to rob a man who was carrying cash. The police have seized choppers, a revolvers and three live cartridges from the gang.

The arrested members have been identified as Santosh Chavann, 42, Vijay Gharat, 26, Ananta Patole, 45. The gang has cases of robbery in Chembur, Padga and Thane.

According to the police, on receipt of specific information, a trap was laid at the bus depot in Goregaon (E) and the three others were apprehended as soon as they arrived around 2.30 pm.

"The gang had committed a robbery of Rs50,000 on October 8 in Ambernath and the next day they committed a robbery of gold jewellery worth lakhs in Padga police station. A few days later they commit a similar offence in Chennai," said Milind Khetle, senior police inspector.

According to the police, Chavan, who is the gang leader, used to earlier stay in Chembur. "Investigations have revealed that Patole had procured a country-made revolver and cartridges from someone. We are on the lookout for two more people," Khetle said.
