Thane guardian minister Ganesh Naik seems to be unhappy with the way the unauthorised constructions department of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) is functioning.

According to him, the officials from the department are taking action only against some ‘illegal buildings’ which have been ‘out of their favour’. This issue came to light during the janata darbar of the guardian minister held at Vishnudas Bhave auditorium in Vashi recently.

Sources said that the minister, reportedly irked over the way the Cidco’s department is working, had rapped the senior officials from the department for favouritism while carrying out their duties.

His reaction came when one of the applicants in the janata darbar accused the Cidco staff of being partial while demolishing illegal structures in Koprigaon recently. According to the applicant, the officials demolished only one building and left other illegal buildings untouched during their demolition drive.

This seems to have irked the guardian minister who took the department to the task and said that he should not get such complaints in the future as he expects the officials to carry out their duties in a responsible way.

Reacting to this, a senior official from the Cidco’s department, on the condition of anonymity, said that the issue is not serious as it has been made. “During the janata darbar, the minister praised our work and told us that action should be initiated against all the  illegal constructions without being partial to anyone. We told him that we are not being partial to anyone and that we are carrying out our duties diligently.”

The official added that the anti-encroachment drive is a continuous process and the corporation has not been facing any problem as such while demolishing the illegal structures.
