Environmental activists and eco-conscious citizens moulded more than 200 Ganesh idols with clay that was unearthed from the Mithi river. They later painted, decorates and even took them home.
The event was organsied to create awareness about pollution-free celebrations for the festival due in September. It was part the Eco Ganesh festival 2013.
BMC deputy municipal commissioner Kishor Kshirsagar said, “Although the present generation may find these idols are not as bright, it is better to use smaller, more earthy idols that dissolve in water.” NGO — Awaaz foundation plans to map the noise levels in the city.
