Gambling racket in five-star hotel busted by Juvenile Aid Protection Unit

The sleuths managed to bring the matter to light after conducting a raid in Juhu-based Sea Princess hotel and rescuing 54 female poker players who indulged in gambling.

A poker gambling racket has been busted by the Juvenile Aid Protection Unit (JAPU) wing of the crime branch of Mumbai police. The sleuths managed to bring the matter to light after conducting a raid in Juhu-based Sea Princess hotel and rescuing 54 female poker players who indulged in gambling.

According to the police, JAPU officials entered the hotel incognito and got access to the playing area. The female poker players first tried to flee but were prevented from escaping. While 54 female players were recused, 63 male players were taken into custody. Police have seized 1,847 poker coins worth Rs 35 lakh, Rs 3.8 lakh in cash and some other materials.

“During the investigation, crime branch rounded up staffers of the hotel, and later the manager, two conductors, one cashier and 14 other staffers and around 63 male players. While the female players have been booked under Section 46 (D) of CRPC and later released after issuing notice on their names, 81 person were booked under Section 4 (a) and Section 5 of Maharashtra Anti Gambaling Act,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (JAPU) department RB Mane.

“Before Diwali, an invitation was circulated to all for celebrations but place and time were not mentioned. Jaldeep and Honey were the organisers who invited all over phone to play poker. All those who played belonged to well-to-do families,” Mane added.
