FYJC: Offline admission process to start at 1pm today

Thursday was the last day for online admission to First Year Junior College (FYJC) in city colleges. Those seats that now remain vacant will be available for students who seek admission offline.

After the third merit list, around 74,109 seats had remained vacant. And after the online admission process on Thursday, more than 75,000 seats are expected to remain vacant. Students whose names didn't figure in the online process can go in for offline admission.

The offline admission process will start on July 18 at 1pm. Colleges have been asked to declare stream-wise cut off marks for offline admission and put up the list on notice boards.

Offline admissions will also be based on merit (marks). Students will have to produce their original marks list and school leaving certificate when they seek admission forms. The completed applications will be collected from eligible students on July 19, 21 and 22. The merit list will be displayed on July 23 at 11am and admission formalities will be completed the same day. Colleges will inform the deputy director of education, Mumbai region about vacancies, if any, on July 24.

Sameer Shah (name changed), a student, said: "I am applying for offline admission in a South Mumbai college despite my name appearing in the online list. There were some technical issues due to which I could not take admission online, so now I have to apply offline here."

Another student, Ravi Mehta (name changed), said: "My name had figured in the first list in one of the top five colleges, but I didn't want to go to that college, so I will try admission offline."

Mehek Gwalani, KC College vice principal, said: "Seats in our Arts stream are almost full; a few seats remain vacant in Commerce and Science streams, they will be made available for offline admission."

Anila Pillai, vice principal of HR College, said: "If there are cancellations, we may admit IGCSE students on the basis of merit."
