FYJC 2018: First merit list for admissions to be declared today in Mumbai

The first general merit list for admissions to first-year junior college (FYJC) will be declared today.

Around 2.3lakh candidates have applied for over 3 lakh seats in the city colleges for FYJC admissions this year. This year the number of colleges too have gone up to 800. Principals of city colleges expect the cut-off marks in to go up by 2-3 per cent like last year.

Rajpal Hande, Principal of Mithibai College, Vile Parle, said, "The cut off merit list will go up this year by 2-3 per cent like last year. Bifocal admissions were conducted separately this year and so the cut off merit list for science stream too will be rational."

Echoing the sentiments of Hande, Principal of Ashok Wadia Jai Hind College, said, "The cut-offs are definitely going to be high. We are expecting the highest cut-off in Commerce, followed by Arts and Science. Cut-off marks for Arts will be high in certain top colleges for Arts."

A large number of students secured above 90 per cent, this will lead to a hike in cut-off marks, says some principal. This year four students of Mumbai have scored 100 per cent in their SSC board exams, whereas 125 students across the state have scored 100 per cent in SSC board exam.

Mehak Gwalani, Vice Principal, KC College, said, "With many students scoring 90 per cent and above, cut-off merit list will go up in our college too."
