If you have not yet enrolled yourself for Aadhaar card or are still to link it to your bank account, then be ready to shell out money at market rate (around Rs1,270 in satellite city) for LPG cylinder from February 1.

Reason: Oil marketing companies continue with their stand on linking Aadhaar numbers with LPG cylinder subsidy despite the Supreme Court order.

According to an LPG dealer from Navi Mumbai, “We have received orders from the company so are asking customers to submit xerox copies of their Aadhaar cards and the blue LPG book after linking their cards to their bank accounts. Those who fail to do so will have to pay at market rate from February 1.”

However, most residents consider it a violation of the Supreme Court order. The SC had observed that Aadhaar number is not necessary for availing important services and residents cannot be deprived of any facilities.

“How can the oil companies force Aadhaar on us and stop subsidies when there is a SC order in this regard? I have applied for Aadhaar but haven’t got it yet. There are so many people whose number has still not been generated. Why should we shell out extra for cylinder when we are not at fault?” asks Sandeep Divekar, a resident of sector 11, Kharghar.

An official from a petroleum, requesting anonymity, said, “LPG cylinders will be sold to all domestic consumers at market price. However, the subsidy will be later transferred to only those who have linked Aadhaar number to LPG consumer number and bank account, while others will not get any subsidy.”

When dna of navi mumbai contacted helpline number 18002333555 of the oil ministry, the call centre executive informed that for Navi Mumbai area from Airoli to Belapur and beyond (till Panvel), consumers will have to shell out at market rate from February 1 for a LPG cylinder if they do not have Aadhaar card or have not linked it to their bank account.

An official with LPG dealer in Kharghar, said, “Consumers who have linked their Aadhaar card to the banks will get an advance in their bank account after they book their first subsidised cylinder before delivery and after delivery of the first subsidised cylinder. The next subsidy will get transferred to their bank account, which is available for purchase of next subsidised cylinder at market rate.”
