Fr Agnel's club to enhance leadership qualities, personality development

To enhance the communication and leadership skills that help in personality development and self confidence, Fr Agnel School has introduced a ckub for its students. The Gavel Club will benefit those interested in honing their overall skilss. This is a part of the Toastmasters club but for those below 18 years. On Saturday, an inaugural session was conducted within the school premises for the benefit of parents and students.

Representatives from the Toastmasters International, District 41, were present to explain more about the Gavel club. Along with the principal Fr Almeida, Brillian SK, Lieutenant Governor for education and training of Toastmasters International and Arvind Nair, district secretary were present, too. Through presentations and activity sessions, they highlighted the importance of improving communication skills and how it will further help in effective leadership.

"It is necessary for students to understand the need for effective use of stage, good language, eye contact and posture while talking. By learning to use the allotted time effectively and speaking precisely about the subject point will be useful in life. In every profession there always comes a moment when an individual needs to interact and communicate. 

The sessions at the Gavel club will help children to make effective use of the time allotted and make themselves appear more confident and prepared," said Brillian through his demonstration sessions.

They focused on three elements, prepared speech, impromptu speech and evaluation. The students were involved in all these aspects and it will help them to multitask. Also, with positive approach they will focus on areas of improvement. Meanwhile, Nair explained how the role of a speaker is to captivate the audience, but he also highlighted at how it is not an English speaking course. It is to improve the usage of the language and pronunciation.

This activity is a two-hour weekly session where every student will be given equal importance and a chance to speak in front of the class. Once in two months they will also have writing sessions. Once registered, the students will be given manuals. All parents and children were impressed with the session and their queries were also resolved. Eager students were looking forward to these sessions which are set to begin from January.
