A day after dna reported JB Ludhani High School principal landing in trouble for making an insensitive remark to the parents of two siblings, four schools have approached the parents, offering free education to their children.

Meanwhile, the Vasai school principal, Siny Satheesan, who had remained unavailable for comment despite repeated attempts, responded on Tuesday, calling the allegation baseless.

"We have been approached by four schools in the Vasai-Virar belt. We have decided to shift our children, but we don't want free education. We are capable of paying their fees, albeit nominal and on a monthly basis. We couldn't pay earlier due to my husband's ill health. We want our children to have a proper education and will meet authorities of the schools," said Neelu Upadhyay, mother of the two.

"The principal's remarks were in bad taste and offended me. The school could have allowed my kids to study there and appear for the exams."

An education officer said, "A school can't expel or fail students up to Std VIII. We've informed the parents that they can transfer their children to some other school after this academic year." Taking a tough stand, the education department on Monday had said it won't renew the Vasai school's recognition.

"The responsibility of a school is to promote education without commercially exploiting its rights and power to arm-twist poor parents. We will give the children free education and have approached the parents," said the principal of one of the four schools.

Satheesan, however, continued to claim that the parents didn't approach the school for any concession in fees and the two siblings were absent without intimation. "We have a student-friendly approach and we deny that we have arm-twisted the parents for fees," she added.
