Four cases of rape, including the violation of two minors aged four and seven, were registered across the city in the last 24 hours.

In one incident, a 45-year-old housewife who ran away from West Bengal after a minor quarrel with her husband and landed in Mumbai in search of a job, was on Monday raped by an unidentified man. The man also made away with her two gold rings.

The woman boarded the Howrah-Mumbai mail from Kolkata on May 4 and alighted at Dadar on Monday at 5.10 am. Half an hour later, an man aged between 30 and 35 years approached her. He promised her to get her a decent job and told her to wait while he came back with his colleague.

Later, the man and his colleague, around 40 years old, took the victim to a room in a slum colony, where a woman and her two children were staying. The woman told the victim to go for a bath, and asked her to leave her gold rings outside, which the victim did. However, as soon as the victim entered the bathroom, the associate barged in and raped her. Later, she came out of the bathroom to see that the woman and children had vanished, taking her gold rings with them.

Her rapist then abandoned her at the Dadar (E) railway station, following which she lodged a complaint against him with the help of government railway police personnel. The case was then transferred to Matunga police station.

“We have registered a case and a manhunt has been launched to nab the rapist and his associate,” said Raghvendra Thakur, senior inspector of Matunga police station.

In the second incident, a 4-year-old girl was allegedly brutally raped by unidentified men in the wee hours of Saturday and dumped in the isolated parts of Kache Road in Malwani.

The Kandivli police on Tuesday informed that she had been in a hospital for the past two days and was discharged on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, a passerby saw the girl and informed the control room. The child was taken for medical examination in Nagpada hospital where rape was confirmed. Her father, an autorickshaw driver, said, “My child was brutally raped. It is shocking. I don’t know who did this.”

Inspector Sudhakar Shinde said, “Investigations are on. We have not made any arrests yet. It could be someone from the neighbourhood, but we can’t be sure at this point.”

The Kurar police arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly raping a 7-year-old girl a week ago. The incident took place on May 1 and the complaint was registered on Monday afternoon. The victim was alone at her home when the accused, accused, Aditya Ruke alias Babliya, barged in and raped her. The girl’s father was in Pune and mother was in the neighbourhood. “The complaint was lodged only after the father returned,” said a police officer.

In the fourth incident, the Nehru Nagar police registered a case of rape against Mukesh Kothari, a jewellery shop owner on Monday for allegedly keeping a physical relationship with a 22-year–old married woman under the pretext of marrying her.
