Four injured in Tarapur MIDC unit reactor blast

All the four were rushed to a local private hospital with severe burn injuries even as the police were yet to register a case till the time of going to press.

A blast occurred in a reactor at Sunrise Process Equipment in Tarapur’s MIDC region when a team of four workers was repairing it. The impact of the blast was such that hot oil and the jacket of the reactor got blown off, leading to severe burn injuries to the workers.

Raju Maurya, 24, Suraj Maurya, 21, Mritunjay Maurya, 22 and Basu Maurya,30, were welding the reactor jacket when the blast took place at around 6pm. All the four were rushed to a local private hospital with severe burn injuries. However, police were yet to register a case till the time of going to press.

“We have taken the statements of the injured, who are being treated at the Sanjeevani Hospital in Boisar,” said a police officer, adding, “We are investigating whether the owner of the company is at fault and will book him if he is found guilty in the whole incident”.

Deputy superintendent of police Vijay Sagar remained unavailable for his comment.
