The Amboli police has arrested three Nigerian nationals and a Brazilian woman for drug trafficking, after recovering 6.4 kilograms of cocaine from their possession. The four accused had cleverly contained the contraband — altogether worth Rs 39 crore — in curtain rings. The arrested accused have been identified as Navi Mumbai resident Niras Abuzik Okhowo (35), Nalasopara resident Simon Agobta (32) and Micheal Sunday Hope (29) and Carle Pinto Iris (49), both residents of Bengaluru.

According to additional commissioner of police, west region, Manoj Kumar Sharma, specific information was received that foreign nationals would be arriving at the Maurya Landmark area in Andheri for delivery of cocaine on Saturday evening.

Accordingly, a police team led by inspector Daya Nayak laid a trap at the location, and all four foreigners who arrived at the spot were apprehended.

"We found cocaine in their possession. Okhowo informed us that more drugs were kept at his Koparkhairane residence. We have seized 6.4 kilograms of cocaine worth Rs 39 crore in all from the quartet. They used to conceal the contraband in curtain rings. A preliminary probe has revealed that the drugs were sourced from Afghanistan, and it was to be sent from Mumbai to South Africa," a police source said.

"Okhowo was earlier arrested in a similar case and we have seized a photocopy of the bail application submitted in Special NDPS court. Iris too was arrested in a drug-related offence three years ago, and she had recently come out of Byculla jail," the officer said.
