Four arrested in Nagpada by Crime Branch for robbery and ​kidnapping​​

Speaking about how the four of them were caught, an officer privy to the case said, “With the help of the CCTV footage, we noticed one of them speaking over the phone. With technical help, we got the whereabouts of one of them after which we traced the other three.”

The Crime Branch, (CB) Mumbai, Unit 3 has arrested four members of a gang that was involved in kidnapping and robbery. The case was initially registered in Nagpada police station on December 12.

The main accused who was arrested on December 20 was identified as Idris pathan and already ​has several cases registered against him at the Dongri police station. The other three identified were Mohammad Mustafa, Firooz and Usman (Yeda). The gang used to steal money and were involved in robbery to allegedly consume drugs.

At the time of the incident, the four boarded a taxi from Byculla and took it to a commercial area nearby. From there they broke opened an A/C servicing shop and stole an A/C compressor. On the way, they scared the taxi driver with a knife and asked him to hand over all his valuables including his mobile phone and money. They also asked him to take the back seat while Idris ​drove the car.

All four of them had allegedly consumed ​the Methylene Dioxy Methamphet Amine (MDMA) drug commonly known as Ecstasy or Molly. Near Karnak bridge, Masjid Bandar the taxi met with an accident with a light pole. After the incident, all four of them fled from the spot leaving the compressor in the taxi. ​A case was later registered at Nagpada police station.

“Idr i​s confessed that he was under the influence of drugs and so ​were​ his associates. They also confessed that they used to steal money to consume drugs,” said Sunil Mane, Senior Police Inspector, Unit 3, CB Mumbai.

All four of them were produced in court on Wednesday and were ​sent to ​police ​custody for seven days. All of them have been booked under sections 363 (for kidnapping), 392(for robbery) and 34 (act done by several persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
