Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Sunday said that NCP chief Sharad Pawar should clearly state his party's stand on whether NCP would join the BJP-led government or not.

Chavan was speaking at the special Chahaapaan programme organised by Zee24Taas on the eve of the monsoon session of the state assembly. Zee24Taas and dna editor Uday Nirgudkar along with his colleagues Deepak Bhatuse, Shailendra Paranjpe and Amit Joshi interviewed him.

Asked whether he shared Pawar's opinion about a mid-term poll, Chavan said that Pawar and NCP should first put it categorically whether they would or would not join the BJP government.

Chavan said that since the people have given a mandate against his party, Congress was playing the role of a responsible Opposition. He said he did not attack the Devendra Fadnavis government in the past 7-8 months. He added that NCP's stand soon after the election results was known through its party leader Praful Patel's tweet which said NCP would lent outside support to BJP, if there was a hung assembly in the state.

Chavan pointed out that NCP had given the logic that it did not want election in the state again. Replying to the question whether he still was of the opinion that NCP and BJP had a tacit understanding, Chavan said it's for Pawar to clearly state his stand.

All is not well with the government, Chavan said, since Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna' has been criticising the Fadnavis-led government every other day. Sena has criticised BJP president Amit Shah on his 'ekla chalo' policy, he added. Sena is not happy in the government as has been pointed out by Ajit Pawar. If Uddhav Thackeray pulls out support, the government would fall. However, it's necessary for NCP to make its stand clear, the former CM said. Chavan added that new political equations can come up if NCP makes its stand clear.

Fadnavis should make the administration fast-moving and he should try to bring manufacturing sectors in Nagpur and Mihan, he said. He pointed out that investment cant come only through foreign tours and he was not against such tours, but one has to have specific strategic objects for foreign visits.

Giving the example of Jalyukta Shivaar Yojana of Fadnavis government, Chavan pointed out that it was he who had started Jalyukta Gaav Abhiyaan and Fadnavis just changed the name. He said that this scheme has long term-impact and he would not criticise for the sake of criticism.

Reacting to the functioning of the state government, Chavan said that whether it is the Narendra Modi government or Fadnavis government, all the big slogans and promises have vanished. Both the governments have miserably failed to fulfill any of the promises and all sections of the society, including farmers, unemployed youths, industry or the common man, are disillusioned.

He said educational qualifications of education ministers both in state and the Centre are questionable. A minister who wants to be the chief minister is embroiled the chikki controversy. Chavan said slogans and popular announcements may bring you to power, but they also can bring down governments.
