Forget about not having an adequate number of fit monorail rakes to service Mumbaikars, Mumbai Monorail doesn't even have the small and crucial component of wipers to clear rain drops from it's wind shield. "Some trains have, some don't. Those trains without the wiper blades are run with a speed restriction," informed a source.

For the last couple of months, only two trains are being put into passenger service. This has meant a drop in the total number of services operated daily. Ideally, there should be a service every 15 minutes, instead it has come to every 22 minutes due to non-availability of fit trains. For example, on Saturday there were just two trains available – Rolling Stock Train (RST) Number 6 and 8.

As the spares of trains aren't arriving as smoothly as it should, with even wiper blades unavailable like most of the other components of the train, two of the trains are lying vacant in the depot. Machinery of these two trains have been utilised to ensure other trains are relatively better off to keep running between Chembur and Wadala depot.

The wheels or tyres needed for monorail are of certain specifications, these too are short in supply. "Spare guide wheel isn't there in stock. It is needed in case if there's excessive wear and tear of any of the tyres. One of the train stationed at Chembur monorail station needs a guide wheel, but a new wheel should also be available inside the car depot," claimed a source.

"There are some issues with spares, but not all of them. In case of shortfall of tyres, they can be procured from the domestic market and it isn't needed to wait for the consignment come from Malaysia," cleared, UPS Madan, MMRDA commissioner.
