In a rare case, where the police were unable to get any clues to solve a murder mystery, forensic technology came in handy. On May 23, a minor girl was found dead in Malwani area. During the probe, the police questioned several persons from the locality where the victim stayed and took their DNA samples. DNA of one of the suspects matched with samples found on the clothes of the deceased girl. The suspect was then placed under arrest on Wednesday.

The arrested youth has been identified as Sunny Saroj, a domestic help by profession and a resident of Patel Wadi in Malwani.

According to the police, on May 23, body of the seven-year-old girl was found in the bushes of a creek near Patel Wadi. Soon, the police learnt that an elderly person from Patel Wadi had lodged a missing complaint about his granddaughter a few hours before the body was found. The body was covered with a mattress and there were injuries on the victim's private parts. The police had then registered a murder case and started investigation.

"We interrogated several persons from the locality. We then zeroed in on two suspects from Patel Wadi and took their blood samples for DNA analysis. Saroj's DNA sample matched with that found on the clothes of the deceased girl. Saroj has been booked on charges of murder and unnatural offence under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act," said senior police inspector Milind Khetle of Malwani police station.
