Forensic evidence cracked murder case of constable's daughter, says police

A constable's five-year-old daughter was thrown off the of a high-rise building in Byculla in December 2016.

More than two months after the murder of a five-year-old girl who was thrown off the 15th floor of a high-rise building in Byculla, the police have cracked the murder case. Byculla Police arrested Rekha Sutar (40), accused in the murder that took place on December 19, on Friday afternoon.

The deceased Manvi, daughter of the police constable Aarti Ingle who works with Mumbai police, was found lying in a pool of blood in the compound of a high-rise building. Sutar was Ingle's neighbor and they had raised their suspicions about her.

According to the police, even though the accused has not confessed yet, the DNA and medical reports have confirmed her role in the murder. 

The police had earlier detained Sutar and questioned her, along with other neighbor, but she had denied any role in he murder.  After this, the police had conducted several tests, during which it was revealed that Sutar had thrown Manvi off the building.

On Friday afternoon she was summoned by the police for questioning after which she was arrested.

According to sources, the accused had recently lost her 12-year-old son and had divorced her husband. Due to this she had become mental ill and would always get irritated after seeing children. She was living with her parents. 

"We have arrested the accused after the scientific evidences confirmed her role in the murder," said N Gopale, Investigating officer of the case from Byculla Police Station.

The accused will be produced in the court on Saturday.
