Grandparents are an integral part of any family and their role is extremely important in a child’s growing up years. The bond between a grandchild and his/her grandparent is truly unique as the child sees them not only as a grandparent but also a friend and mentor. The bond grows deeper over storytelling sessions, sharing favourite food items or even while completing the homework—grandchildren are pampered in every sense.

With generation Z
To highlight this bond and give the grandparents a chance to be a part of their grandchild’s school activity, Mount Litera School International recently organised Grandparents Day, which turned out to be a huge hit.

Ruchika Sachdev, Head of Primary Section, says, “Everybody really enjoyed today and the grandparents were most enthused. Among other things, we had also asked them to share recipes that have been in their family for the longest time and to cook with the children. The recipe had to be cooked with fire and they all had great ones and they even explained to others about it.”

The event was highly interactive and included dance performances, cooking sessions, games and few other activities clubbed with surprise gifts for the grandparents. Most of the grandparents had visited their grandchildren’s school for the first time.

On a happy note
Speaking to the grandparents about their experience, Kamla Haria, grandmother of five-year-old Yashwardhan was enthralled by his dance performance. She shared, “It was such an unusual experience to see him perform—he was shy initially but then he started enjoying it.”

Adding himself to the long list of happy grandparents was Rtd. Brigadier Jay Konnur, who was thrilled to see his grandchildren Arav (6) and Arya (4) perform. He shared, “It was a great experience and there was a lot of enthusiasm. The kids were super excited, from the youngest to the oldest child, everyone was thoroughly enjoying themselves.”

Head talks
Cliver Rogers, Head of  Mount Litera School International, shared his thoughts on the event, “Grandparents play such an important role and are held in high esteem by the young ones—sometimes even more than the parents. The fact that you can sing and dance in front of your grandparents creates a lasting memory and it also gives them a chance to meet and interact with other grandparents. It gives them the opportunity to celebrate with their grandchildren as well as socialise with others.”

All-round approach
The school gives a lot of importance in providing a platform to the children where they can learn, grow and enjoy. On that note, an art exhibition was conducted recently, which showcased 200 art pieces created by the students. Each grade was given a theme ranging from ‘global artists and their work’, ‘different techniques’ and ‘best from waste’. Some of the artists included in the theme were S H Raza, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. The techniques included aboriginal art, button art, line painting, dabbing and rubbing.
