For the last two weeks, residents of Kalbadevi, Pydhoni and Chandanbari under the C ward of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are getting contaminated water. Many societies have to procure water in tanker to meet daily needs as they cannot use the one provided due to its stench.

Initially, the contamination was low, but it gradually started increasing. Mangilal Jain, one of the residents in Kalbadevi said that they cannot use the water for even bathing and other purposes. "Stench from the water is unbearable and we faced acute shortage of potable water in the last 10 to 12 days," said Jain.

Even BJP corporator Akash Purohit accepted that contaminated water is being supplied in the last two weeks. "The issue was brought to my knowledge about three to four to days back. Many big housing societies too are getting contaminated water," said Purohit. He added that he immediately informed ward office.

According to residents, the contamination has come down, but first 10 to 15 minutes, they continue to get dirty water.

Purohit said that ward office are trying to locate location where sewage water is entering into water pipeline. "Official told that there might be problem in B ward (Sandhrust Road, P D' melo Road) area.

In July, DNA had reported that Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Colaba, Churchgate, Mantralaya, and Cuffe Parade, were some of the areas where most contaminated water was supplied since the onset of monsoon. However, there was no major contamination was found in Kabadevi and Pydhoni area. But, four samples were found unfit to drink.

Prashant Lohare, sub engineer of water department in C ward too accepted that contaminated water is reaching to some households. "There is no major problem in main water pipeline. However, there might be problem in small pipelines in house galis ( space between two houses), and that is why contaminated water comes in some houses only for first 5 to 10 minutes," said Lohare. He added that they are trying to trace by using cameras and will sort out the issue in couple of days.
