The investigation into the capsizing of floatel Ark Deck bar has concluded that the accident occurred due to a failure in the engine. The final report said no human error was involved. The probe was conducted by Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB). Ark Deck bar was anchored near Bandra-Worli Sea-Link.

The report has been submitted to the state government for its final approval. The MMB has concluded that the engine failure was reported due to improper fuel injection in the engine. The improper injection was caused by heavy tidal movement on May 25, the day the accident occurred.

An MMB official said, "As the tide was heavy due to a cyclone near Oman, the sea conditions were rough, and the vessel was moving up and down that resulted in improper fuel injection. This caused engine failure which subsequently resulted in the vessel losing its direction and hitting the rock."

After the vessel hit a rock, a hole was formed in it and water started entering the vessel. It began tilting and capsized subsequently. Around 15 crew members on the floatel were rescued after the vessel started capsizing.

"We have found no human error into the accident, and the probe is shut by us now. The report is being submitted to the state government that will give a final nod to the report," the official said.

In order to promote tourism and coast-line tourism in the state, the Maharashtra government has been encouraging floating hotels. Currently, two floatels are near Bandra-Worli Sea-Link and two are proposed to be operational near the Gateway of India starting November 2018.

Meanwhile, operations to salvage the vessel is expected to be completed in a week. It has been nearly five months to the operations now.

"The salvage operations are being conducted by the owner of the vessel, and currently, the remaining two floatels are running normally near Bandra-Worli Sea-Link post-monsoon since the third week of October," the official added.
