A 27-year-old woman, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly gang-raped by two men in Pydhonie on Thursday night, and she fell from the terrace of a five-storey building when she tried to flee from the accused. The victim sustained injuries and is now being treated at JJ Hospital.

The incident came to light on Friday morning, when the victim was found lying in a drain of the building.

The accused have been identified as Farooq Abdul Latif Khan, 31, a Mumbai resident, and Santosh Ramsagar Kanojia, 26, a resident of UP's Akbarpur.

Police said Santosh and the victim hail from the same village in UP, and they had arrived in Mumbai together a week ago in search of jobs. They both stay in Bhiwandi.

On Thursday evening, Santosh, along with the victim, went to Pydhonie to meet Farooq in the building he was temporarily staying in. The two men consumed alcohol and allegedly raped the victim. Around 4 am on Friday, the victim tried to run away from the building, but she slipped and fell off from its terrace. "We were informed by neighbours about the incident, after which we immediately rushed to the spot and took the victim out of the drain," said Dnyaneshwar Chavan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone II.

According to neighbours, after hearing a woman's cries for help from the terrace, they heard a thud. "I initially heard her cry out, but within a few minutes I saw her falling on our flat's parapet," said Mukhtar Khan, a resident staying on the fourth floor of the building.

Another neighbour told the police that she had seen the victim climbing the staircase of the building on Thursday evening. She identified one of the men as Farooq, who often arrived late at night and stayed on the fifth floor.

After the police arrived at the spot at around 4.45 am on Friday, they knocked on the door of the fifth floor flat. When there was no answer, they were forced to break open the door. The accused have been arrested.
