Five nabbed for duping Mumbai based businessman of Rs 94 lakh

The Matunga police have nabbed a gang of cyber fraudsters from Delhi who had been operating a call centre from Delhi and would dupe people by luring them to invest in fake insurance scheme.

The accused have been identified as Rajender Singh, Sachin Sirohi, Anup Kumar Agrahari, Vikrant Singh and Prashant Chaudhari.

The accused had recently duped a Mumbai based businessman for Rs 94 lakh by promising him to give life insurance coverage from a reputed insurance company.

According to the police, the businessman, Mohan Korgaonkar had received a call from a person who claimed to be an executive of a reputed insurance company and lured him with an insurance scheme. The accused asked him to pay Rs 94 lakh in 16 transactions.

"After receiving the money, the accused did not entertain the victim's call. When Korgaonkar approached the company's office, he was shocked to learn that there is no such scheme," said a police officer.

He then registered an FIR with the Matunga police. "During the investigation, we found that the calls were coming from Delhi following which we started tracing the accused. On Monday we arrested them from Delhi and have seized few 20 mobile phone, laptops and routers from their call centre," Commissioner of Police, N Ambika said.
