Five juveniles at a city correction centre staged an escape, sending the police into a frenzy. The minors, aged between 13 years and 16 years, took advantage of some construction at the Dongri Children's Home to break free on Saturday.
Authorities said a ladder brought for the civil work had been left near the compound wall and the boys used to scale the boundary. Two of teenagers had been sent to the Dongri home by the Kurla railway police, while an NGO had brought the other three.
"We are trying to trace them and soon they will be nabbed. We have informed their parents and are checking the CCTV footage of the area," said an officer from Dongri police station.
Senior Inspector Sandeep V Bhagdikar said no case has been registered yet as they have launched a probe to locate the juveniles.
As many as 42 minor have fled the Dongri centre in the last three years, the Maharashtra government had told the Legislative Council in July 2017. Responding to the numbers, social activist Shadaab Patel had said that they pointed to the lack of security and hygiene at the remand home.
