Five disqualified corporators yet to refund public money: RTI

Once disqualified, a corporator needs to return salaries and allowances received during his tenure

Five of the 16 corporators disqualified from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have failed to return emoluments and allowances paid to them. The civic body is yet to recover Rs 12 lakh from these disqualified corporators. Once disqualified, a corporator needs to return salaries and allowances received during his tenure.

The details of the amount to be recovered from the disqualified corporators was revealed by a Right to Information (RTI) claim filed by RTI Activist Anil Galgali. Details were also sought through RTI about the action taken on ex-corporators who were disqualified but had not paid their dues. However, the civic body has now sent a notice to all ex-corporators.

While other corporators responded to the notice, they have failed to respond. These five corporators who lost their position on the grounds of using fake caste certificate, while contesting elections are Lalji Yadav, Fatima Anjum, Anusha Kondam, Bhavana Jobanputra and Ishaq Shaikh.

The total sum of recovery from the five corporators is Rs 11,98,166. Ex-Member Lalji Yadav owes Rs 7,439, Fatima Anjum Rs 45,388, Anusha Kondam Rs 3,20,681, Bhavana Jobanputra Rs 3,65,428 and Ishaq Shaikh Rs 4,59,230.
