Come Sunday, the Gandhi maidan in Chembur will witness a fitness-filled morning as two major Kutchi communities — Shri Cutchi Visa Oswal Deravasi Jain Mahajan and Shri Kutchi Visa Oswal Sthanakvasi Jain Mahajan — are conducting a minithon committed to fitness to promote the importance of health, and wellness.
The past decade has shown an alarming rise in cases of obesity, cholesterol, thyroid and blood pressure — particularly in the younger generation due to irregular schedule and a fast-paced lifestyle.
In an attempt to deal with this issue, the minithon has arranged for some fun activities and races, ranging from 500m to 10km. The organisers have also arranged races for specially-able children and a 'run for a cause' event. The minithon has seen approximately 4,000 registrations, out of which around 100 are special children and 1,700 are women.
The race route will see a carnival with music, cartoon characters, bands to make the event more lively. The community has also made arrangements for traffic management.
