City colleges declared the third cut-off merit list for the students seeking admission in first year degree courses in colleges affiliated to Mumbai University on Wednesday. Not many students who scored between 80 and 90 per cent could make it to best colleges as the cut-off in reputed colleges remained high and above 90.

Soon after the reservation issue in minority colleges was resolved in degree colleges. The Mumbai University directed its affiliated colleges to declare second merit list on July 14 and the third and final cut-off merit list on July 18. The city's reputed colleges cut-offs remain high even in third merit list making space only for high scorers in the city across the boards.

Parag Thakkar, Principal of HR College, Churchgate, said, "Our third cut off merit list has marginally come down, but has remained above 90. This is because a large number of students have scored above 90 across all the boards. I am sure this is the scenario in other reputed colleges too." While the cut-off first merit list of HR College was 95 per cent, second merit list was 94.80 per cent and third cut-off merit list is 90 per cent.

Echoing the sentiments of Thakkar, another principal, Ashok Wadia, Jai Hind College, Churchgate, said, "The cut-off merit list of our college too is still high in BA and BCom."
