The first phase of Shendre Bidkin industrial area, which is a crucial part of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), will be completed by December this year and will attract investment worth Rs 15,000 crore. The Greenfield smart industrial city, known as AURIC, is being developed by the Aurangabad Industrial Township (AIT) — a special purpose vehicle formed by DMIC Development Corporation and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation — on a sprawling 10,000 acre.
AIT is currently investing Rs 7,000 crore for the development of infrastructure in the Shendre Bidkin industrial area. Domestic and foreign investors are expected to invest in projects from varied sectors including agriculture and food processing, automobile and engineering, textile, defence and aviation and electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM). Apart from this, AIT expects investments in manufacturing of electric vehicles, drones and aircraft for civil and defence aviation.
Joint managing director of AIT Gajanan Patil told reporters that the first phase is being developed on 4,600 acres. Allotment of 50 plots have already been done, he informed. "A Russian transformer and steel manufacturing company, a Chinese packaging and box manufacturing firm, a Japanese construction equipment manufacturer, and another Chinese medical equipment manufacturer have evinced interest to invest in the AURIC city. They are expected to close the deal in the next three months," he said.
Patil said AURIC is expected to make Aurangabad, which is currently tourism capital of Maharashtra, a major industrial hub. It is expected to create about 3 lakh new jobs and attract skilled labour. "Nearly 60 per cent of the total land is being utilised for industrial use while 40 per cent has been allocated for residential and commercial purposes, open spaces, social and cultural amenities and institutions. A lot of emphasis is being given on the use of recycled water. AIT will tie up with Aurangabad Municipal Corporation for the same," he noted.
