Fire gutted the four-storied factory

A major fire broke out on Sunday evening in a chemical factory located at Turbhe MIDC near Balmer Lawrie Company in Navi Mumbai. Seven people injured in the fire have been admitted to a civic hospital in Vashi. A total of nine fire engines from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), MIDC Turbhe and MIDC Taloja were called to douse the fire.

According to an official from NMMC's fire department, the intensity of the fire was high and took time to control. The Emergency Response Station at Pawane MIDC received the fire call at 4.42 pm on Sunday.

"Nine fire engines and three water tankers from Vashi, Nerul, Turbhe and Pawane ERS reached the factory," said an official from MIDC's fire department. He added that the chemical factory has been fully gutted in the fire. "There were reactors on the third and fourth floor of the four-storied building which could have possibly blasted," added the official. The exact cause of the fire is yet unknown. Officials from the factory were unavailable for comment.

According to sources, there were more than 30 workers inside the premises when the fire broke. While most of them were successfully evacuated, some of them suffered minor burn injuries.

Minor fire in MMRDA ground

A minor fire broke out at a stall during an event at MMRDA Exhibition Grounds on Sunday around 5 pm. It was immediately brought under control by the emergency fire engine stationed near the ground. An official from the Mumbai Fire Brigade said that a short circuit was the cause of the fire.
