An 11-storey residential building in Versova caught fire on Friday afternoon. However, it was doused in an hour and no casualties or injuries were reported.

According to fire brigade officials, the fire broke out at 4pm in a flat on fourth floor of Godavari building, adjacent to the Versova telephone exchange.

"Four fire tenders and four water tankers were rushed to the spot. It was a grade 1 fire," a fire brigade official said.

"We managed to safely evacuate the people who were stuck on the top and bottom floors of the building." The cause of the fire is not known yet, he added.

This is the second such incident in the last two weeks. On July 18, a high-rise in Andheri, Lotus Business Park, caught fire, where a fireman lost his life.
