Fire guts Powai studio, no casualties

Panic spread after a major fire erupted at a film studio in Powai on Saturday afternoon. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Fire officials says the blaze started at 1:27 pm on the ground floor of Chitra studio, located near Supreme Business Park in Hiranandani area. Firefighters took about two hours to bring the blaze under control.

"None was hurt in the incident, for we managed to evacuate people present at the scene in time. There has been damage to property though we are yet to ascertain the extent," said a fire official, wishing not to be named.

Officials suspect a short circuit at the set of a television serial triggered the fire. The official added, "Exact reason is yet to be established."

The fire brigade put to use four engines during the rescue work.
