The new academic session might have begun at schools but children from financially weaker section of the society are still awaiting admission under Right to Education's 25% quota.

Due to this the Anudanit Shiksha Bachao Samiti has written a letter to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) education department to either finish the admission process of 25% quota before June 30 or face massive agitation.

Schools in the city are set to reopen on Wednesday after the summer vacation but the education department's failure to hold the second round of lottery for kids from the weaker section of the society has deprived many of their rights.

The first lottery was held on April 20 where out of 6,409 applications that had come for RTE 25 percent quota admissions, as many as 3,411 applications were selected.

The Anudanit Shiksha Bachao Samiti wrote a letter to the BMC's education officer on Tuesday and threatened to take to the streets if the admissions under RTE is not completed before June 30.

On being asked about the issue, Dinkar Temkar, deputy director of primary education, said: “Second round of RTE admission in Pune has been decided to be held on 16 June. In a day or two, we will decide the date for Mumbai's second round of admission process. We will try to finish all the rounds and admissions before June 30.”
