For the first time, in south Mumbai's Maharashtrian belt, a festival is being dedicated to misal and vada pav. The program will be held at Girgaum. On Saturday it will be during the evening and on Sunday it shall be from morning to night.

The event will be held at the Urnakarwadi society ground where nearly 16 stalls serving misal pav and vada pav will welcome close to 2,000 people. The stalls will be from restaurants in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Kolhapur and others.

Tejesh Sakpal, one of the organisers said, "The reason behind holding this event is that these are middle-class snacks and eatables. There are so many festivals like the Koli festival and others that are organised in Mumbai, then why not something on misal pav and vada pav that is organised here."

Girgaum is one of the last Marathi belts in south Mumbai, with a predominant Maharashtrian population. Both misal pav and vada pav are typical Maharashtrian fare.

Amit Bhadricha a local of Girgaum said, "Till now there has been never a program dedicated to Missal Pav in south Mumbai, this will be the first attempt. It is not in some big ground but at a local society ground and it is a very local affair but everyone can attend it."

The spicy missal all of a sudden has become a political tool, recently MNS had held a missal festival in Dadar-Mahim area. In Thane, there have been several misal festivals and all political parties have jumped in there. Even the Girgaum misal fest will have a saffron tadka with Sena siding with the event.
