Final call on BDD chawls redevelopment taken, MHADA to execute work: CM Fadnavis

The department of housing development on Wednesday made a detailed presentation to Fadnavis on the proposed redevelopment.

Saying that the state government has arrived at a final decision on redevelopment of BDD chawls in Mumbai, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said the final cabinet note on the same would be presented before the state cabinet by this month-end. He added that it would be done by the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (Mhada).

The department of housing development on Wednesday made a detailed presentation to Fadnavis on the proposed redevelopment. Minister for housing development Prakash Mehta, minister of state for the department Ravindra Waikar, chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, principal secretary for the department Srikant Sinh, principal secretary to the revenue department Manukumar Srivastav, principal secretary to the urban development department Nitin Karir, the three secretaries to the chief minister —Praveensinh Pardeshi, Milind Mhaiskar and Praveen Darade — and Mhada chief executive officer SS Jhende were present.

Speaking to media persons, Fadnavis said Mhada would undertake the redevelopment work and there is no problem as adequate FSI is available. He informed that a competition between the architects was held and winners of this competition have submitted their designs. He added that he would not divulge all the details since it would be discussed during the cabinet meeting, but all residents would be accommodated.

Both Mehta and Waikar expressed the need for providing houses with maximum possible area to the residents of BDD chawls while going for redevelopment. Mehta said all the amenities, including basic infrastructure of water, power and sanitation, would be provided. Waikar said every family should be provided with adequate parking space and open spaces should be maintained.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis informed that the meeting also discussed all the aspects of the housing policy and all the issues of contention have been sorted out. He added that the final decision on the housing policy has also been arrived at and would be finalised soon.
