The trial of Mumbai's first air-conditioned local train, slated to begin on Monday, has been pushed back because of Diwali which has resulted in a large number of railway staff going on festival leave, railway officials told DNA. The trial is now expected to begin by the first week of November. According to CR officials, the train is 'almost ready' for trial as complex issues affecting the train have been resolved. As reported earlier by DNA, a major issue with the rake was the harmonics that created technical confusion with the Train Control and Management System of the rake. Harmonics is a term for spurious signals that create disturbances in electrical signals and can end up damaging control mechanisms and other software that control and run modern trains. The issue has been resolved by adding four new inductors to the rake. The inductors have been made by Netherlands-based firm Strukton Rail which partnered with Indian power major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to build the Train Control and Management System for the AC rake.

"There was another problem of a humming noise when the train's electrical systems start. That will require a filter which is in the process of being installed. Once that is done, the rake should be ready for trials. It might take anything between 14-16 weeks for the static and dynamic trials," said a source. A section of officials added that there was a real chance that the rake might not be commissioned in the current fiscal year at all. These officials pointed out that rake trials are elaborate procedures and every component failure almost certainly means that the design for that particular failed part is back to the drawing board. Officials said that CR General Manager Akhil Agarwal and BHEL officials had met a few days ago to chalk out a trial schedule but because of Diwali, the resulting staff leaves, and the non-availability of technicians from the Dutch firm threw the schedule haywire. The rake arrived from Integral Coach Factory-Chennai on April 5, 2016 and is currently at CR's Kurla car shed.
