A 37-year old female staffer working with the police department has alleged that she was molested by an Indian Police Service officer of additional director general rank. On Monday, the woman lodged a written complaint in this regard with the Colaba police. However, the police have not yet registered an FIR regarding the same.

In her complaint to the Colaba police, the woman alleged that the senior police officer groped her at his south Mumbai office. The incident allegedly happened on Monday morning, following which she complained to the police later the same day.

According to police sources, the woman, a widow who is does clerical work, claimed that the IPS officer had, a few days ago even asked her about her marital status and family background, and subsequently called on her mobile phone to speak to her.

A police officer on condition of anonymity said: "We have taken her written complaint and are verifying her claims. She says she was inappropriately touched by the IPS officer. No FIR has been registered into the matter so far."

The officer added that the police is also verifying the complainant's phone call records, and if she had faced any administrative action previously, because of which she levelled such allegations against the senior officer. "There are no witnesses in the matter. However, it will be an impartial inquiry," the officer informed.
