An accused, arrested by the RCF police in a criminal case in 2012, hurled his shoe towards a judge during a hearing at Sessions Court on Tuesday. The accused, Madan Govind Chauhan, also abused the judge and was later arrested by the Colaba police.

Chauhan was arrested in 2012 in a robbery case. After his police custody got over, he has been languishing in the Arthur Road under-trial jail. "Around 12.30pm on Tuesday, Chauhan was produced in the courtroom number 25 of sessions judge SV Patil. During the hearing, he suddenly hurled his shoe towards the judge, which came up to the dais. He also abused the judge. The police escort party immediately took Chauhan in their custody and handed him over to the Colaba police," said a police officer.

Colaba police then registered a case against Chauhan under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

"Preliminary inquiry has revealed that Chauhan's wife is also an accused in the robbery case. He was unhappy with the time-taking court proceedings and hurled the shoe out of frustration," said the officer.
