In a tragic incident, two minor brothers jumped to their death in front of a running train at Nalasopara since they were afraid of facing their parents after managing to withdraw Rs37,000 in cash with their father's ATM card and purchasing cellphones with the money.

The Vasai Government Railway Police have registered a case of accidental death in this regard.

According to the police, the deceased children, Pravin Gupta (16) and his brother Arun (13), were both residents of Babul Pada in Nalasopara East. They secretly withdrew Rs37,000 from their father's bank account after stealing his ATM card, which they knew the security PIN for, and used that money to purchase cellphones.

Their friend, identified as Mohsin, informed their parents about the purchase of the phones after their mother, Shubhawati, saw the two phones in their possession and questioned the duo about how they had sourced the required money.

"The duo managed to steal Rs6,000 in cash from the house, too, apart from withdrawing cash on March 16. Fearing a scolding and beating from their parents, they went missing from home after their mother questioned them about the phones, which they had been asking for for a long time," said a GRP official.

"The parents had earlier registered a case of kidnapping at the Tulinj police station. The station master informed us that two teens had jumped in front of a running train at platform no. 1 in Nalasopara station," said the officer.

Mahesh Bagwe, inspector, Vasai GRP, said: "We have registered a case of accidental death in this regard and are yet to ascertain under which train the minor boys had jumped to end their life."
