Fearing that he would fail in the class 8 student, a 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his Jogeshwari residence on Saturday morning.

Rajendra Prajapati, a class 8 student of an Andheri-based school, was staying with his parents in Jay Ambe Society in Anand Nagar area of Jogeshwari (West).

According to the police, Rajendra went to his room at 11pm on Friday night after having his dinner.

At 8am on Saturday when his mother went to check on him as he had not come down for breakfast, she found that the room was locked from inside. When she did not receive any response after knocking on the door for several times, she peeked through the window and found him hanging from the ceiling fan.

She alerted her husband. They immediately rushed Rajendra to Cooper Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

The Oshiwara police have recorded the statement of the family.

Rajendra’s father told police that his son was under pressure as he was not performing well in his exams and that might be the reason of him being taking the extreme step.

“We did not find any suicide note from the spot. We do not suspect any foul play and have registered a case of accidental death,” said Vikrant Shirsat, police sub inspector of the Oshiwara police station.
