On Thursday the two elevators in the LIC building at Fort, which houses the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) were not functioning causing hardships to advocates, litigants and judicial officers who were forced to climb four floors to reach the courts.

President of the Bar association, Ravi Shetty said "This is a major nuisance, most of the time the elevator is not operational, thus we are forced to take the stairs. Several written communications made to LIC have fallen on deaf ears."

Joint registrar Mrs MR Joshi said, "There are two lifts in the building but due to some fault, they are not working. Today, only after complaining to the company and the LIC, did atleast one lift has started working."

Vice-president of the Bar Association, Rahul Walia said, "There are around 75 members of the association, majority of them are middle age or senior citizens. Litigants approaching the tribunal also are mostly senior citizens and they might be suffering from severe ailments like hypertension and blood pressure. If the elevators are not working then climbing up would aggravate their illness."

P Sivadas, engineer with LIC said, "We received the complaint today morning and it was immediately addressed. One of the elevators has already started working and the other one needed some repairs which will be done soon and it would also start functioning at the earliest."
