Farmers march overshadows truckers strike

The union claim that there are several issues that they want the government to address. "Today few of the trucks and tempos plying in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai remained off road. It was a coincidence that farmers morcha and our strike call happened on the same day. If the government does not agree to our terms then we will go on indefinite strike from April 25(sic)," said Mohinder Singh Ghura, founder president, Maharashtra Rajya Truck Tempo Tanker Bus Vahatuk Mahasangh.

Sources said that due to the clash with farmers morcha, the one-day trucks and tempo strike did not garner much steam. Some of the demands made by the associations are for the government to prevent the police from misusing digital cameras while checking truckers, prevent RTO officers catch truckers to meet targets, and that the process of investigating theft of goods from trucks while on travel be expedited etc.
