While the Opposition alleged that Rameshwar Haribhau Bhusari, a farmer from Aurangabad district, was severely beaten up by security guards at the Mantralaya on Thursday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the state assembly that it was Bhusari who had attacked security guard and an inquiry would be conducted in this incident.

Bhusari hails from Ghatshendra village of Kannad Taluka in Aurangabad district and had visited Mantralaya on Thursday. He went to the sixth floor where the Chief Minister's office is situated.

After the information about the incident spread on social media, the Chief Minister made a statement in the House. The entire Opposition was absent since it has boycotted the House proceedings to protest against suspension of 19 of its MLAs from the House.

Fadnavis said that this farmer had applied for compensation for the damage of shed-net and poly-house after the hailstorm on April 11 and 12, 2015. The chief minister informed that the agriculture department had made it clear that compensation was given for crop and not for shed-net or poly-house. Fadnavis said that Bhusari was not beaten up by police or security guard but Bhusari himself had bitten security guard. Fadnavis assured the House that inquiry would be conducted in this incident and report of the inquiry would be presented to them.

Meanwhile, Opposition leaders including Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, Dhananjay Munde, Ajit Pawar, Jayant Patil and Abu Azmi visited Marine Drive police station and inquired about the farmer. Vikhe-Patil informed that initially police tried to mislead them and told that the farmer was taken to court. After calling him up on his mobile, Vikhe-Patil said, "The farmer told us that he was in a room inside the police station." Vikhe-Patil said that the angry leaders took police inspector to task and brought the farmer in front of them. Vikhe-Patil said that after their intervention, a complaint has been registered that the farmer was beaten up and was strangulated while being brought to police station.
