Family court grants woman divorce on cruelty ground

Apprehending risk to a woman's life, if she continues to stay with in laws, the family court granted divorce to a 31 year old. The divorce was granted on the grounds that she was subjected to cruelty on the grounds of cruelty. The court also directed her husband to pay an amount of Rs 5000 per month towards her maintenance along with an amount of Rs 3000 towards the maintenance amount of his minor daughter, till the time the daughter turns maturity. The court further directed the man to pay an additional amount of Rs 20,000 towards the woman's litigation costs.

The couple got married in on April 18, 2010 and the woman started residing along with her in laws. Right at the start of her new life, she was taken aback by the fact that her in laws were about to accompany the couple to their honeymoon. Initially the woman felt that she was a victim of some prank, but they did actually accompanied the couple, and this situation of her in laws accompanying her to their honeymoon made her extremely uncomfortable. The woman, however, let go the situation, and thought of leading a happy life ahead, but again she was subjected to mental as well as physical torture in the hands of her in laws.

Since the woman was a working woman, the family members started demanded money from her every month towards her expense. The woman was forced to do household work and then leave for her office.

The worst situation was when her in laws had visited the woman's maternal house for her baby shower function, they collected all the gifts, which the woman had received. Further the husband kept of demanding a percentage of the loan amount, which he had availed to purchase a flat in Mumbai.

When the husband was grilled in the cross examination, there was no relevant answers from her husband which could prove that his family had not conducted the torture on the woman, thus granting relief to the woman.
