Both chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray seems to have made a temporary truce. Although BJP and Shiv Sena have been at loggerheads for some time now, their strained relations did not reflect on Friday during the tree plantation programme, which was graced by both the leaders.

Fadnavis and Thackeray together planted a sapling in presence of governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, Union minister for environment and forests Prakash Javadekar and state forest minister Sudhir Mungantiwar. Mungantiwar had announced a state-wide drive of planting 2 crore trees on July 1, which was launched at Mahim Nature Park in Mumbai.

Tree plantation programmes were held all over the state which were attended by film stars, industrialists and celebrities from various walks of life.

On the occasion, Thackeray said that global warming was a global phenomenon and the fear is that many cities, including Mumbai, would drown in the coming years. "In the name of development, what we are doing is destroying what we have and the so-called development is taking us in the wrong direction," he said.

Referring to criticism of the government by Sena despite being a part of it, Thackeray said that he would congratulate for whatever good is being done and would stand with BJP shoulder to shoulder.

Referring to absence of BJP city unit chief Ashish Shelar during the pumping station inauguration at his hand two days back, Thackeray, without mentioning Shelar, said that when people asked him whether he would attend this tree plantation drive programme he had said: "I am not here to prove to be a bad omen by remaining absent, but I would be there when a good work is being done. I congratulate Mungantiwar for launching a good work."

Fadnavis also echoed the same sentiments and avoided any criticism of Shiv Sena during his 11-minute speech. Pointing out that a sapling was planted by both him and Thackeray, the chief minister said that this is an indication everyone needs to understand. He further said that the sampling planted together would grow as a big tree.

The chief minister took a selfie with the sapling at the Mahim Nature Park.
