A woman from south Mumbai has lodged a complaint with the DB Marg police station alleging that her Facebook profile picture was used on a fake account which has several obscene photos.

The 29-year-old has told the police that her profile was compromised despite she activating private settings. The social networking site provides various layers of privacy to its users allowing them to grant access of their profiles to friends and outsiders.

While the cops have registered a complaint under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act, they suspect that the recently created bogus account is the handiwork of someone known to the Khetwadi resident.

On Monday, the woman, who works as a secretary in a leading private firm, told the police that she learnt through some friends about an FB account bearing her photo as the profile picture.

"When the woman checked the FB profile that has her photograph, she was shocked to see several obscene pictures of unknown women and objectionable posts on it. She then lodged a complaint with us," said an officer from DB Marg police station.

The police are in the process of tracing the internet protocol (IP) address that was used to create the bogus FB profile. Also, the fake account will be blocked soon, said an officer.
