According to the sources in the Mumbai crime branch, the victim and her friend successfully identified suspended assistant police inspector (API) Sunil Khatpe and API Suresh Suryavanshi at the identification parade carried out at the Arthur Road jail in front of a magistrate.
The 29-year-old model who claimed that she was extorted by a group of policemen from Sakinaka police one of whom raped her identified two of the policemen involved in the alleged crime at Arthur Road jail on Wednesday. Even a male friend of the victim who was allegedly kidnapped and later extorted identified the two policemen.
According to the sources in the Mumbai crime branch, the victim and her friend successfully identified suspended assistant police inspector (API) Sunil Khatpe and API Suresh Suryavanshi at the identification parade carried out at the Arthur Road jail in front of a magistrate.
"Identification parade is part of the investigation process and the victim managed to identify Khatpe and Suryavanshi," said an officer from Mumbai crime brach. "Once the victim identifies the accused, it helps strengthen our case."
On April 3, under the pretext of carrying out a raid, three policemen from Sakinaka police station picked up the complainant and her friend. In her complaint to the Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria, the model has alleged that the arrested accused extorted Rs9 lakh from them, and that one of the inspectors went on to rape her in a beat chowkie.
A case was registered and the accused trio was arrested.
The police are still unable to track Aman, who is believed to be a model coordinator who had sent her to a hotel on the pretext of fixing a meeting with a Gujarat-based producer Sikandar for work.
The complainant told the police that one of the accused who had met her in the coffee shop of the hotel later asked her to accompany him to a room where Sikandar was waiting. She grew suspicious and refused to comply to the accused's request.
