As per a claim made by an official from the education board, an extension to the registration date chiefly resulted in errors in the hall tickets handed out to students. Extending the date of registration did not leave the board officials enough time to process the forms. Subsequently, the entire process got delayed and the data of the students got messed up in the haste that followed.

The registration dates receive an extension every year, to enable students to register. The board, too, has to accept applications even at the last moment. These extensions though, leave the board with less than enough time to process the data and send the pre-list to schools on time. "We receive applications in lakhs and have to process all of them in a very short time," said a board official on the condition of anonymity.

As for the students, the errors in hall tickets are no less than a nightmare, as they, too, do not have much time to get the errors rectified as their exams are scheduled to begin from Monday. The board, however, has granted the power to school principals to correct mistakes and accordingly intimate the board.

A senior board official of divisional office, Vashi, said, "Most bright students complete their registration on time. Only the weak and repeaters' students wait till the last date to submit their examination forms." He added the board cannot refuse to accept registrations coming in so late, as political parties immediately get involved, claiming to be the well-wishers of the students. "There are clear instructions from the state government to ensure that every eligible student get registered if they wish," said the official.

With limited officials, we work day and night and send the pre-list to schools. "Since all the process is done in very short time and hall ticket carry some mistakes," added the official.

Sudhir Dani, an education activist says that the board can entrust some of the works to schools. "At present, all the works of both SSC and HSC examination is executed by board office single hand. They can lend some works to schools to ease the pressure," said Dani.

Meanwhile, the helpline number of board flooded with hall ticket mistakes. "We have been receiving a big number of calls from SSC students about the mistakes in hall tickets. We have asked not to worry them for the hall ticket and concentrate in their preparation instead,"said Ashok Sarode, a counsellor at helpline board number.
