Expel ragging accused & act against MIT, Maharashtra Government told

Chairman of the legislative council Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar on Tuesday ordered the state Government to take action against the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) and ensure that the students who indulged in ragging are removed from the college.

Chairman of the legislative council Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar on Tuesday ordered the state Government to take action against the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) and ensure that the students who indulged in ragging are removed from the college.

Congress MLC Anant Gadgil had raised the issue ragging incident and inaction on the part of Police department and the college in this regard. Gadgil pointed out that even though the college had removed the students responsible for ragging for a month, they were allowed to come to college and the college had cited the reason that neither they have been proved guilty nor they have been exonerated.

Minister of state for Home department Ranjit Patil informed that the student was from polymer engineering course and was admitted to Sassoon Hospital in Pune after the ragging incident. Patil informed that he was admitted between September 9, 2014 and October 4, 2014 during which he narrated the entire incident to doctors and his parents.

Patil informed that the said student faced ragging between July 2014 and September 2014 and as per his statement a complaint was lodged in Kothrud Police Station against three students and a teacher. When Minister Patil informed that the three students were suspended by the college, Gadgil pointed that they have been allowed to attend college. After Gadgil's intervention, the Chairman ordered the Minister to ensure that these students should be removed from the college and Government should also take action against the college.
