Parel resident Kavita Banerjee was caught unawares on Tuesday evening.
At 9pm, the Indian Meteorological Department issued a warning of increased rainfall activity. Due to the formation of low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder is expected in Mumbai along with the Konkan region and south Madhya Maharashtra in the next two days.
The rise in temperatures, made it worse. According to the weather bureau, the withdrawal of monsoon normally brings along warm temperatures, humidity and late-evening thunderstorms.
Deputy director general of the India Meteorological Department, Mumbai, KS Hosalikar, said: “The withdrawal pattern should reach Maharashtra anytime between the 19th and 30th of this month.”
Monsoon withdrawal, which lasts around 25 days all over the country, usually begins around September 1. Starting from the northern parts of the country, it usually reaches Gujarat and Maharashtra during the latter half of the same month.
