Mumbai has been witnessing a drop in temperatures, making the weather cooler than usual.

Since Sunday, the minimum temperature has been around 15 degrees Celsius – 3 degrees below normal.

“Usually, temperature during this period is 18 degrees Celsius, but due to the cold wave coming from the north, temperatures have dropped considerably in the state and in Gujarat. Humidity levels too have been low, for a few days. This condition will prevail for at least two days,” said KS Hosalikar, director general of India Meteorological Department, Mumbai.

While the minimum temperature has touched 15.6 degrees, the rest of Maharashtra saw a 6-degree drop in temperature. The lowest recorded temperature on Monday in the Maharashtra-Gujarat region was 6 degrees at Ahmedabad, while Pune and Nashik touched 7 degrees.

The winter in Mumbai is different from other regions in the state. It’s hot during the day where temperatures rise to around 30 degrees while surrounding regions see constant low temperatures making days cooler.

Meteorologists said this decade has seen the most number of temperature drops in winter which peaks in the last week of December and first week of January.
